The standard low-voltage bid process is quantity-of-drops, copper category, fiber type and strand count, hours, done. The integrator who shows up has no idea what fire alarm, access control, IP camera platform, or wireless infrastructure is going on top of the cabling. They install what was bid and walk off the site. Twelve months later, when the access-control project starts, the cabling team is back arguing with the security integrator about pathway, riser space, and category mismatch.

CITADEL Connect is engineered the other way. RCDD on Staff

BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) leads design, engineering, project management, and implementation across network cabling, OSP, DAS, pathways, and spaces. RCDD-led design is the difference between cabling that supports today’s systems and cabling that supports the next ten years.

BICSI TDMM Aligned

The Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual is the BICSI design reference. Our cabling designs follow it for telecom rooms, pathways, backbone and horizontal cabling, vertical risers, labeling, and testing/certification — including earthing and bonding.

Copper & Fiber

Cat. 6 and Cat. 6A copper, multi-mode and single-mode fiber. Cat. 6A is our copper recommendation for new construction — it supports PoE++ and 10G workloads. For fiber links: OM4 multi-mode (10G up to 1,800 ft) and single-mode for bandwidth and distances beyond that.

OSP & DAS

Outside plant cabling — directional boring, hand-holes, vaults, HDPE duct, last-mile fiber. Plus distributed antenna system (DAS) design and installation support for in-building cellular coverage.

Data Center Cabling

TIA-942 aligned MDA / IDA / HDA layout and cross-connect engineering inside the data center white space. TIA-569 compliant fiber-duct systems and cable runways. TIA-606 compliant labeling. TIA-607 compliant bonding and earthing.

Pathway & Firestopping

Pathway engineering — cable support systems, riser sizing, wall penetrations, firestopping, and fill-ratio monitoring per BICSI / TIA standards — for a turn-key installation. Not subbed out, not left for the GC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is RCDD certification and why does it matter?
RCDD stands for Registered Communications Distribution Designer — the BICSI credential for low-voltage and structured-cabling design. RCDD-led design is the difference between cabling that supports the systems you’re installing today and cabling that supports the systems you’ll be installing in seven years. CITADEL Connect has an RCDD on staff who leads design across cabling, OSP, DAS, and pathway engineering.
What cabling categories do you install?
Cat. 6 and Cat. 6A copper for horizontal and riser runs, multi-mode and single-mode fiber for backbone, and a range of riser- and plenum-rated cabling depending on jurisdiction. Cat. 6A is our default recommendation for new construction because it future-proofs against PoE++ and 10G workloads.
Do you do outside plant (OSP) work?
Yes. CITADEL Connect handles OSP cabling — directional boring, hand-holes, vaults, HDPE duct, and last-mile fiber — as part of multi-building campus deployments. OSP requires different licensing and locating practices than inside-plant cabling, and we field the team for both.
Can you do DAS (distributed antenna systems)?
Yes. We provide DAS design and installation support for in-building cellular coverage, including iBwave-based design coordination with carriers. DAS is increasingly required for healthcare (clinical communication), retail (employee mobility), and education (campus coverage) where macro coverage is insufficient.
Do you do data center cabling?
Yes. Structured cabling inside the data center, MDA / IDA / HDA layout per TIA-942, and cross-connect engineering. We coordinate with the IT and facilities team to keep the white-space plan consistent with the broader campus cabling standard.
Can you do firestopping?
Yes. UL Listed and NFPA compliant firestop systems are included in CITADEL Connect scope by default — we don’t sub it out and we don’t leave it for the GC. Firestopping is one of the things AHJs cite most often on cabling projects, and it is faster to do it right the first time.
How does CITADEL Connect integrate with the rest of the CITADEL stack?
The cabling is engineered around the systems it will carry. Fire alarm pathways, access-control runs, camera feeds, and power infrastructure all share the same low-voltage plan. When CITADEL Connect is engaged on a building, the cabling is designed in the same shop that designs the access control, the fire alarm, the cameras, and the UPS — not bolted on after.
